(Percentage & Fractions)
(Profit, Loss & Discount)
- સાદું વ્યાજ: $SI = \frac{P \times R \times T}{100}$ | વ્યાજમુદ્દલ $A = P + SI$
A = P \left(1 + \frac{R}{100}\right)^T$ | $CI = A - P$
- ૨ વર્ષ માટે CI અને SI નો તફાવત: $$CI - SI = P \left(\frac{R}{100}\right)^2$$
- ૩ વર્ષ માટે CI અને SI નો તફાવત: $$CI - SI = P \left(\frac{R}{100}\right)^2 \times \left(\frac{300 + R}{100}\right)$$
(Speed, Time & Distance)
(Relative Speed):
(Boats & Streams)
(Time, Work & Pipes)
- જો A, B અને C અનુક્રમે $x$, $y$ અને $z$ દિવસ લે: $$\text{ત્રણેય સાથે મળીને} = \frac{xyz}{xy + yz + zx} \text{ દિવસ}$$
(M-D-H Rule): $$\frac{M_1 \times D_1 \times H_1}{W_1} = \frac{M_2 \times D_2 \times H_2}{W_2}$$
(Alligation & Mixtures)
(Clocks & Calendars)

📐 Quantitative Aptitude — Rapid Formula Handbook
📊 Percentage & Successive Change Shortcuts
- Fraction to Percentage Conversions: 1/2 = 50% | 1/3 = 33.33% | 1/4 = 25% | 1/5 = 20% | 1/6 = 16.67% | 1/7 = 14.28% | 1/8 = 12.5% | 1/9 = 11.11% | 1/11 = 9.09% | 1/12 = 8.33%.
- Successive Percentage Formula: Net effect of two successive changes of $x\%$ and $y\%$: $$\text{Net Change} = \left(x + y + \frac{xy}{100}\right)\%$$ (Use positive values for increase/profit and negative values for decrease/discount).
- Inverse Relation Rule: If price of a commodity increases by $R\%$, reduction in consumption to keep expenditure constant: $$\text{Reduction} = \left(\frac{R}{100 + R}\right) \times 100\%$$
💰 Profit, Loss & Marked Price
| Concept | Formula | Quick Shortcut |
|---|---|---|
| Selling Price (SP) | $SP = CP \times \frac{100 + P\%}{100}$ (or $- L\%$) | Multiplying factor method ($+25\% \implies \times 1.25$) |
| Discount % | $\text{Discount} = MP - SP$ | $\% = \frac{\text{Discount}}{MP} \times 100$ | Discount is ALWAYS computed on Marked Price (MP) |
| MP to CP Relation | $\frac{MP}{CP} = \frac{100 + P\%}{100 - D\%}$ | Instantly calculates markup needed for desired profit |
| Two Equal SP Cases | Two items sold at same SP, one at $x\%$ profit and other at $x\%$ loss | Always a Loss: $\text{Loss}\% = \frac{x^2}{100}\%$ |
🏦 Simple Interest (SI) & Compound Interest (CI)
- Simple Interest: $SI = \frac{P \times R \times T}{100}$
- Compound Interest (Annual compounding): $A = P \left(1 + \frac{R}{100}\right)^T$ | $CI = A - P$
- Difference between CI and SI for 2 Years: $$CI - SI = P \left(\frac{R}{100}\right)^2$$
- Difference between CI and SI for 3 Years: $$CI - SI = P \left(\frac{R}{100}\right)^2 \times \left(\frac{300 + R}{100}\right)$$
- Rule of 72: Money doubles at $R\%$ interest in approximately $\frac{72}{R}$ years.
⏱️ Speed, Time & Distance Shortcuts
- Unit Conversion: $1 \text{ km/h} = \frac{5}{18} \text{ m/s}$ | $1 \text{ m/s} = \frac{18}{5} \text{ km/h}$.
- Average Speed (Equal Distances at speeds $u$ and $v$): $$\text{Average Speed} = \frac{2uv}{u + v}$$
- Relative Speed:
- Moving in opposite directions (approaching): $\text{Speed} = u + v$
- Moving in same direction: $\text{Speed} = |u - v|$
- Train Crossing Problems:
- Train crossing a pole/tree/man: $\text{Time} = \frac{\text{Length of Train}}{\text{Speed}}$
- Train crossing a platform/bridge/tunnel: $\text{Time} = \frac{\text{Length of Train} + \text{Length of Platform}}{\text{Speed}}$
- Boats & Streams:
- Downstream Speed $D = u + v$ | Upstream Speed $U = u - v$ ($u$: boat in still water, $v$: stream speed)
- Boat Speed in Still Water $u = \frac{D + U}{2}$ | Speed of Stream $v = \frac{D - U}{2}$
💧 Time & Work / Pipes & Cisterns
- If A completes a work in $x$ days and B in $y$ days: $$\text{Together} = \frac{xy}{x + y} \text{ days}$$
- If A, B, and C take $x$, $y$, and $z$ days: $$\text{Together} = \frac{xyz}{xy + yz + zx} \text{ days}$$
- Man-Days-Hours Formula: $$\frac{M_1 \times D_1 \times H_1}{W_1} = \frac{M_2 \times D_2 \times H_2}{W_2}$$
⚖️ Mixtures, Alligations & Repeated Dilution Shortcuts
The Alligation rule provides instant calculation for blended commodities:
$$rac{ ext{Quantity of Cheaper}}{ ext{Quantity of Dearer}} = rac{ ext{Price of Dearer} - ext{Mean Price}}{ ext{Mean Price} - ext{Price of Cheaper}}$$
- Repeated Dilution / Replacement Formula: If a container initially holds $x$ units of pure liquid and $y$ units are withdrawn and replaced by water repeatedly for $n$ operations: $$ ext{Remaining Pure Liquid} = x left(1 - rac{y}{x} ight)^n$$
🚢 Boats, Streams & Relative Motion Formulas
| Parameter | Mathematical Formula | Exam Quick Shortcut |
|---|---|---|
| Speed Downstream ($u$) | $$u = b + s$$ (Boat speed + Stream speed) | Direction with the water flow. |
| Speed Upstream ($v$) | $$v = b - s$$ (Boat speed - Stream speed) | Direction against the water flow. |
| Speed of Boat in Still Water ($b$) | $$b = rac{u + v}{2}$$ | Average of downstream and upstream speeds. |
| Speed of Stream / Current ($s$) | $$s = rac{u - v}{2}$$ | Half the difference of downstream and upstream. |
| Average Speed (Round Trip) | $$ ext{Avg Speed} = rac{2uv}{u + v} = rac{b^2 - s^2}{b}$$ | Always less than still-water boat speed $b$. |
⏰ Clocks & Calendars Fast Techniques
- Angle between Hour and Minute Hands: $$ heta = left|30H - rac{11}{2}M ight|$$ Example: At 8:20, $ heta = |30(8) - 5.5(20)| = |240 - 110| = 130^circ$.
- Right Angles: Hands of a clock form $90^circ$ 22 times in 12 hours and 44 times in 24 hours.
- Coincide / Straight Lines: Hands coincide 11 times in 12 hours and 22 times in 24 hours.
- Calendar Century Odd Days:
- 100 Years = 5 Odd days
- 200 Years = 3 Odd days
- 300 Years = 1 Odd day
- 400 Years = 0 Odd days (Centuries like 1600, 2000, 2400 have 0 odd days).
- Equal Selling Price Trap: When two items are sold at the same selling price (SP), one at $x%$ profit and other at $x%$ loss, there is ALWAYS a net loss of $rac{x^2}{100}%$. It is NEVER no-profit-no-loss!
- Speed Unit Conversion Trap: To convert $ ext{km/h} o ext{m/s}$, multiply by $rac{5}{18}$. To convert $ ext{m/s} o ext{km/h}$, multiply by $rac{18}{5}$. Memory tip: Moving from large unit (km) to small unit (m), smaller number (5) goes in numerator!
- Discount Calculation: Discount $%$ is ALWAYS computed on Marked Price (MP), never on Cost Price (CP) or Selling Price (SP).
- Clock Hand Overlaps: The hands of a clock coincide only 11 times in 12 hours (NOT 12 times!), because between 11:00 and 1:00, they coincide only once at exactly 12:00.
• Digital Sum Verification: The sum of digits of a number (reducing to a single digit by treating 9 as 0) must match on LHS and RHS in addition, subtraction, and multiplication. Use this in multi-digit calculation questions to eliminate 3 incorrect MCQ choices in 5 seconds.
• Cyclicity of Unit Digits ($N^k$):
– Cyclicity of 1: Numbers ending in $0, 1, 5, 6$ always have unit digits $0, 1, 5, 6$ respectively for any positive power.
– Cyclicity of 2: $4, 9$ (Odd power: $4^1 = 4, 9^1 = 9$; Even power: $4^2 o 6, 9^2 o 1$).
– Cyclicity of 4: $2, 3, 7, 8$ (Divide power $k$ by 4, take remainder $r$; if $r=0$, use power 4).
